Spring Roll Manual
A DIY spring roll party at Mapbox
In their early SF days, Mapbox was looking for a fun and food-focused event to liven their newish SoMa office.
With my friend Alex from Mapbox and visiting artist and friend Andreas, we designed an event for the team centered around make-your-own spring rolls with a twist — we hung a table with circular cutouts from the ceiling, and filled them with bowls that held the ingredients. Andreas built and hung the table and I planned and prepped the menu, while Alex rallied the Mapbox team and provided moral support.
We wrote all the filling names right on the table, gave the team a quick tutorial, and let the spring rolls fly from there. Andreas rigged the table securely, but since it wasn’t attached to the floor it took on a nice sway and got pretty messy and people built their rolls. But it wasn’t designed to last past the evening, so we just… rolled with it.
